Working Cats Frequently Asked Questions
-
They can live out their lives as outdoor cats if you can provide a safe, sheltered space, such as a shed, barn, or outbuilding as well as consistent access to food and water. Healthy cats make the best mousers.
-
Cats benefit from the support and companionship of other cats in their “work environment”. They find safety within a group. Therefore, we adopt the cats in pairs of 2, 4, or 6, depending on the size of the area to be patrolled.
-
These cats, for the most part, cannot be handled by humans. Their personalities range from semi-friendly to extremely skittish. Some you will see, especially at meal times. Others will hide until the coast is clear. Our adopters who have outdoor cameras report the many successes they see on camera.

We are unable to intake new cats from the community at this time. Cats in the Working Cats program have been removed from unsafe and unhealthy environments where there is an imminent threat of harm from people or the cats are at risk of death from starvation. Regrettably, there are far more cats in dangerous situations than there are adopters and we have many cats in our program that are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and waiting for placement.
